An American Airlines scheduled flight from London to Chicago has executed a return to London shortly after departure today.

American Airlines AA99 London (LHR) – Chicago (ORD)

American Airlines flight AA99 from London Heathrow (LHR) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) made an unscheduled return to London as it was passing over Ireland outbound.

The transatlantic flight, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registered N836AA, had made an on-time departure from LHR at 09:27 local time, based on the scheduled departure time of 09:15 BST (British Summer Time).

The flight had departed normally, and had climbed to 33,000 feet on its outbound track before it executed a turnaround whilst over Ireland, approximately 40 minutes after takeoff.

Flight AA99 subsequently negotiated a descent and return to the London airport, landing uneventfully just under two hours after departure.

The aircraft in question is a five-year-old long haul widebody Boeing 787-9 belonging to American Airlines. The airplane was originally delivered to the carrier in July 2018.

According to data from FlightRadar24, the flight is now re-scheduled for a departure from London Heathrow at 14:50 BST.
