A380 Preparations for Return to Service

Located at its state-of-the-art aviation MRO facility in Abu Dhabi, Etihad Engineering meticulously prepared the A380 for its return to the skies. Throughout the process, Etihad Engineering collaborated closely with Etihad, Airbus, and other key suppliers.

The aircraft, boasting a luxurious and award-winning guest experience, features The Residence, 9 First Apartments, 70 Business Studios on the upper deck, and 405 Economy Smart Seats, making it a true marvel of modern aviation.

During the comprehensive check, the Etihad Engineering team carried out various critical tasks, including rear spar and frame modifications, the meticulous inspection and installation of all four engines, and servicing of a wide range of sophisticated components at their dedicated workshops onsite.

Throughout the process, Etihad Engineering collaborated closely with Etihad, Airbus, and other key suppliers.

Airbus A380 Expertise and Experience

The achievements of the Etihad Engineering team are truly remarkable, with an unparalleled level of experience on the A380 platform. In the past, they have successfully conducted the world’s first 12-year check on an A380, in addition to handling complex structural modifications, landing gear changes, and cabin refurbishments.

They maintained an involvement in heavy maintenance programs for international customers from all corners of the globe, including Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and the Far East.

The Next Phase

With the successful completion of the first A380 in the Etihad Airways re-entry into service program, the team at Etihad Engineering is preparing for the next phase.

Under the nose-to-tail project, they are set to commence work on the next aircraft, ensuring that it meets the highest safety and operational standards before taking to the skies once more.

A World-Class Facility

Etihad Engineering’s impressive facility, situated adjacent to Abu Dhabi International Airport, holds the distinction of being the largest commercial aviation MRO facility in the Middle East.

With a sprawling site area of 550,000 sqm, it can currently accommodate up to 40 widebody and narrowbody aircraft, catering to their growing portfolio of airlines, lessors, and aircraft owners from around the world.

As a testament to their dedication, two additional widebody hangars are currently under construction to further bolster their capacity.
